Who can use this

A signed-in account with Author Studio enabled. Manuscript text must be pasted as private plain text or Markdown.

Before you start

Keep an independent copy of your source file. Create or import accepts pasted plain text or Markdown, not a layout-preserving document upload.

Acceptance is your approval of an exact saved version. It is not professional editing, formatting or publication certification.

Steps

1. Open Editorial Assistant. In My Manuscripts, choose Continue on an existing project or Create or import to prepare a private manuscript.
2. Use Manuscript to write and check the Autosave status. Named versions and the immutable original remain separate from the working draft.
3. Use Language and Story for version-bound guidance, then inspect Findings. Add useful findings to the Revision Plan or dismiss them deliberately; analysis never rewrites your text automatically.
4. Open Versions, give the revision a label and select Save named Version and analyse. Open older versions to inspect them without destroying the latest draft.
5. Open Final check for the intended saved version. Review the remaining findings and confirm I approve this exact saved Version for controlled export before selecting Accept selected Version.
6. Open Export for that accepted version to generate EPUB, PDF or DOCX proof files. Validate the output yourself; these files are not guaranteed print-ready or retailer-ready.
7. For an optional next step, open Handoff. Choose Book Manager, ARC Hub or Marketing Planner and review the approved title, synopsis and other context. ARC requires the same eligible Book and ready protected file.
8. Confirm the reviewed handoff and continue using the recorded link. It passes approved context, not raw manuscript text, and never publishes or opens a campaign automatically.

What happens next

The original and named manuscript versions remain private and recoverable. Only the exact accepted version can produce controlled proof exports and a deliberately reviewed handoff.

Common problems

Export is locked.

Select the intended saved version, open Final check and explicitly accept it. An unsaved draft is not an accepted snapshot.

A stale-version or save warning appears.

Keep a copy of any unsaved text, reload the project and inspect the latest state before saving again. Do not assume another tab's changes were overwritten.

A proof is not ready for printing or a retailer.

Inspect the generated DOCX, PDF or EPUB and arrange any specialist editing or formatting needed. This tool does not supply an ISBN, cover, distributor upload or publication certification.
